Anna's Bridal Portraits

We took these bridal portraits of Anna in March, before it started getting so dang hot!  Anna and Luke married in mid-May in Austin, TX (pictures from their big day coming soon...), so we decided we'd do the bridal portraits in Austin as well.  We discussed several different locations, but decided to start at Laguna Gloria, and end at the Texas State Capitol.

Laguna Gloria is an ideal place to take bridal portraits.  There are so many places to photograph, both inside and outside.  The grounds around the main building are perfectly kept, and inside there is plenty of warm, beautiful window light.  This site was the original home of the Austin Museum of Art, and is still owned and operated by the museum.

Anna looked gorgeous in her dress, and we had fun working with everything Laguna Gloria and the Capitol had to offer us.  Here are some of my favorites from the shoot.

I'll be posting soon about their beautiful wedding day.  Stay tuned...

Kelly's Bridal Portrait (Part One)

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  I just wanted to make a quick post before I head home.  This is one of the portraits from Kelly's Bridal Portrait session.  Kelly and Callaway got married in early March, and their wedding was beautiful.  We took Kelly's bridal portraits on a rainy day in February, at First Presbyterian Church.  Kelly and the church are both so beautiful, which sure made my job very easy!

I'll post more of the photos from the shoot tomorrow or later this week, but I wanted to go ahead and get this one posted.  This is the photo she and her mom chose to have on display at the wedding.

More to come soon from Kelly's Bridal Portrait Shoot.  Have a great night!

Melanie and Matt's Engagement Portraits

These were taken of Melanie and Matt way back in January, when it was still cold!  Melanie and Matt are getting married later this year on a destination wedding, and needed some engagement portraits.  I was so happy they called me!  I had a blast photographing them in Uptown Park, and found out that Matt plays in the Wade Bowen Band (how cool!).  Check out Wade Bowen and his band, they've got some great music.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the shoot.  I hope you all enjoy.  Have a great weekend!

Erin and Daniel's Engagement Portraits

This past weekend I met up with Erin and Daniel at Herman Park to take their Engagement Portraits.  Then we hopped over to the museum area, and photographed in the sculpture garden andin front of the Contemporary Arts Museum.  We had a great time, and wonderful weather.

Here are some of my favorite images!

A Beautiful Day in Chappell Hill- Part I- Kate and Garner's Engagement Portraits

One of the tintypes we took in front of Kate's family's home.  The tintype process is a 19th century photographic process where pictures are exposed onto sheet metal.  Check out my blog for some more information about tintypes.

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving, I headed to Chappell Hill, TX to photograph some engagement and family portraits.  Chappell Hill is a beautiful little town located near Brenham, TX (home of Blue Bell Ice Cream!).  Kate's family lives a short walk from downtown, so we started photographing at their beautiful, historic house, then walked down the street into town.  We had beautiful weather, and even took a couple tintypes!  I thought the historic setting was a perfect reason to bust out all of the tintype gear!  Kate and Garner did a great job staying still and not blinking for the 6-8 second exposures!

We were only able to take a couple quick exposures inside this church before we had to leave.  I wish we could have spent a bit more time taking photos inside, but there was a meeting scheduled to take place while we were there, so we took what we could get!  The church, located downtown, is a historical landmark, and is more or less the original structure, with very few changes since it was built.

The first tintype exposure, a bit over-exposed.  Because the "film speed/ISO" of a tintype is so slow, you can't accurately meter the light of a scene like you would with a normal camera.  Trial and error is the best way to get a correct exposure.

Kate's family's home is absolutely gorgeous.  After purchasing the home they did an incredible job restoring this piece of Texas history.

Amanda and Ryan Engagement Portraits

Yesterday afternoon we had wonderful weather in Houston, and I was scheduled to photo
graph Amanda and Ryan, whose wedding date is coming up in January.  Amanda and I actually went to the same high school, and were in a couple of the same photo classes.  Anyhow, we had a very nice time in the cool weather, and light was beautiful.  Their dog, Cajun, was a lot of fun, and added a little twist to the shoot. Wish this was the norm for Houston weather!

Enjoy!  I'll be posting soon with some photos from a "tintype lesson" I gave to Episcopal High School's photo classes, and with some information about what I am doing with Yellowstone Academy and their 6th graders.
